Carrie is an illustrator, surface designer and educator. Her art is bright and lighthearted.

Her artist’s mission is to make people smile, because we need more joy in the world.

She has been featured on NPR; in TED; UPPERCASE Magazine and Peppermint Magazine. She is also a SkillShare Top Teacher with a Staff Pick class on signature style.

Cue the fanfare and let the celebration begin! 🎉 We’ve just launched our latest ART CALL in collaboration with the beloved brand, Kinder Cloth Diaper Co. and the opportunity is amazing! 

This is a Category Exclusive Licensing opportunity, and if you love designing for the baby and kids industry, we think you’ll be thrilled to join in. If your focus is to design market-ready collections, this collaboration could be a fantastic addition to your portfolio.

So what exactly are our Art Calls?

Well, they’re like magical portals that give you insight into exactly what a company is looking for and when! The Art Calls are our way of inviting you to create artwork for specific projects, collaboration, and opportunities that brands are looking for.
We believe this will not only give your artwork the spotlight it deserves but also foster a thriving community where we can all continue to support one another!

How exactly, do our Art Calls work?

It’s pretty straightforward! Every time we have a NEW Art Call we send out an email to all of our current Brief Members announcing the specific Art Call and letting you know a NEW Art Call brief has been added to their CSC library.

In your library you’ll find all of the information for the Art Call. All you need to do is select the call that speak to you, let your creativity run wild with the Art Call objective, and submit your artwork (either new or old) before the stated deadline.

Each Art Call will clearly state the objective and the requirements the company is looking for the artwork to meet.
We absolutely love seeing the magic that our Brief Members create and providing the opportunity for new and exciting partnerships to be made!
Please Note: For your work to be submitted you need to be a current Brief member for the duration of the Art Call dates.

Alyssa is a Surface Pattern Designer based near Atlanta, GA. She creates hand drawn textured designs full of whimsical animals and natural elements that are inspired by adventures with her daughter.

Her favourite thing is creating designs that can bring a smile to both kids and parents alike.

The Monthly Creative Briefs are the best investment I’ve made for my art and my business.

They’ve helped me implement a consistent schedule for creating new work, growing my portfolio by helping me create a collection every month, which I can then turn around and pitch to potential clients.

Plus, they always have lots of inspiration to pick and choose from whenever I sit down to draw.

My tip for Surface Pattern Designers is this: Go back to past briefs for even more inspiration!

I’ve used color palettes from earlier briefs when working on a new one that might not have clicked with my ideas for that original brief, but were perfect for a later collection.

Melanie (Mel) works as an Illustrator, Graphic Designer and Surface Pattern Designer based in Auckland, New Zealand.

To say we are excited to have Mel helping us would be the understatement of the year!

As a self-taught designer, Mel has had the privilege to work with a range of local and international companies across fabric, home decor, fashion and stationery industries.
 
Her designs are bright and colorful, with a particular focus on native plants and animals from both Australia and New Zealand.
 
Mel began working with Creative Studio Collective in the fall of 2023 and has become and invaluable member of our team! We are so thrilled to have her working with us to help execute on all of the exciting new ideas and opportunities we have in store for the Creative Studio Collective community!

Creative Brief Member Spotlight

Artist Spotlight Sue Thomson

Sue has always been a creative person trying her hand at many creative projects, and is a self-taught artist. Sue is enjoying her SPD journey and is inspired by the nature surrounding her at her home in New Zealand.

Her latest collection “Blooming” is full of beautiful floral designs hand painted in a whimsical style.

The Portfolio Building Creative Briefs supply me with so much useful information!

They include colour palettes and check lists are a really helpful guide when it comes to the process of creating a beautiful collection. 

As a business owner, staying on track with my Surface Pattern Design journey is difficult. My best tip is to try and do one thing a day to progress your journey.  I try to allow myself 3 hours per day, which can be broken up into snippets, but I mostly fit this in in the evenings. As long as I do one thing a day I am happy.
